Morning All

Creatures and Plants of the world Competition

Huge thanks to all members who managed to gather together images and who entered into the competition. And, well done to all who managed to impress Sheila enough to gain an award. We really did appreciate the time and effort Sheila put into the preparation as well as the presentation on the night; her comments on each image were constructive and we thought well received by us all; hopefully!

Coffee morning

Many thanks to Rhona and Robin who helped us out on the coffee morning and also to all those who provided some very edible produce! We raised the princely sum of £122.50.

Calendar 2025

You may recall, from a previous newsletter, that the Arts Centre Committee (Muriel Burnham-Airy, Chair of the Executive Committee of Garstang & District Arts Society), said: “It was decided to repeat the exercise, (The Calander), next year and we need to contact the Camera club. It was agreed to keep the photographs within the Garstang area as there were plenty of sales outlets in the town.”

We suggested that they may wish to expand the area to cover Garstang and District (Arts Society). Our suggestion would be South of Lancaster to the North of Preston, as far East as Trough of Bowland and West to the coast.

However, they have decided to keep any images restricted to Garstang and the town boundary. We just need to use our common sense and judgment on the extent of the boundary! The Committee’s thoughts are: it should reflect ‘places people go to when visiting Garstang.’

Provisionally, this calendar will be sold, from possibly August onwards (thinking here Garstang show), to raise much needed funds for the Arts Centre.

So, as per last year, the camera club has been tasked to provide the images to be on the calendar:

Images to be in colour, sRGB, within or maximum of 1600 x 1200, ratio of roughly 3:2, and landscape.

So….!

Time scale? If last year is anything to go by images from members for possible selection were submitted to us (Mike and Lewis) around late April – so we suggest this is the target date.

If you recall images were shown, on a members evening, anonymously and were voted on to finalise a group of roughly 36 images which we sent to the committee to pick from.

So, we will follow the above unless the Arts Society ask for something different.

These images can be historical, of say The Children’s Festival or any other Garstang event or you can get out and about and take current pictures, it’s up to you! Eventually each selected image for the calendar will have the name of the author on it.

PLEASE take part over the coming 5 months; so, when you are out and about in Garstang, take your camera! We appreciate that you may be thinking that there are only so many photographs of Garstang you can take – so use your imagination and think out of the box – so to speak! And keep your eye on the weather – snow?!

We think that this is a great opportunity again to show the club’s individual skills and great opportunity to advertise our club.

Victorian Evening:

Message below from Madeline, the new assistant curator at the Arts Centre:

  • On Monday 4th we have Garstang Musical Productions 6:30 – 7pm; followed by Buzz Cadillac and The Lightning Rods Ukulele Band at 7:15pm.

  • We have organised a pop up pizza van for the courtyard for both evenings.
  • Pop in for a free mince pie whilst you are out and about taking photographs.

Photographs

We hope members will participate over 1 or 2 days of the Victoria Evening; at the moment Tuesday is looking best, weather wise, but, of course, all could change!

If you take any photographs that you wish to be sent to the Victoria Evening committee please send them, as soon as possible, to Mike at the usual email address of: info@garstangcameraclub.co.uk

Please ensure images are: sRGB, within or maximum of 1600 x 1200, max 2mb – cheers. Mike will then forward them on.

Any questions – just email in or ring Mike on 07340 314408
